Today's Word of the Day: FLEXIBLE

I guess in order to serve in God's Kingdom you really have to be very flexible. And I mean VERY!

This morning I have no mental preparation (心理準備) to serve in Uncle Robert's funeral service held at church. But I did being called upon by the senior pastor to interpret for him (from Cantonese to English -- not my strongest skill which is the other way around).

While choosing today's attire before leaving home this morning, shirt and tie plus a 2-piece suit did come across my mind. However, I thought that might be too much as (1) I did not need to serve during the funeral service (or so I thought) and (2) today's weather might be too warm for me to wear that. Moreover (3) I do not like to wear business attire anyways!

So I thought about wearing a black golf shirt -- cool and presentable ...... but for a funeral service it would have been too casual.

As a result - a grey shirt, no tie and black pants as compromise. Not bad compromise (or so I thought!)

Arriving at church with a dire need of "bio-break" (hey, that's normal. I am only human!). Did my business, I came out of the boy's room and found myself in the middle of a tiny commotion. I was on the most wanted list during those minutes while I was in solitude.

The senior pastor wanted me to interpret for him (unplanned for) because there seemed to be a significant crowd of English speaking audience. Well, thanks to teamwork, in less than 5 minutes I was briefed about the outline of his sermon and thanks to Norman for loaning his nice tie to me. OK, we're in business.

Thank God that everything went smooth. It had been a glorious service. May His name be glorified.

And for me, lesson learned today: "
SEMPER PARATUS" (隨時候命). I guess I should always put a sport jacket inside my car ... just in case I need to heed call again ... somewhere and some time down the road.

So help me God. ;o)

"I'll remember this. You'll pay!"

RHCBC - Springvale Branch - First Worship. April 15, 2007

Finally! Today's the day that we actualize the CP project. How exciting!

Most of the congregation came earlier than expected. This is good! And I really hope that punctuality (actually being early for church) will become our new church's culture!

Pastor Bernard brought us a huge urn of Tim's coffee. For our first CP worship, what a treat! But I really don't think we do not need this every Sunday as we will have tea during refreshment time.

But Tomas' idea (during lunch at the House of Lydia) is brilliant. Later we may want to have "coffee time" before praise and worship ... so everybody can be early!

The worship (and all the logistics) run very smooth this morning. Of course, as a debut there are things that we need to learn. There are certainly wrinkles that need to be ironed. Let's work together and make it happen!

White Easter

Green Christmas 2006 then White Easter 2007 ...... interesting! Somebody's going to blame global warming again......

Got a bad headache this morning and can't go to church for Easter service and also last Sunday service before we branch out. What a pity. With Tylenol Rapid Relief and a good cup of coffee, let's wait a bit and strive to come back to normal so that I can re-join life group this afternoon.

Speaking of this afternoon, all Leaf fans will be focusing onto a non-Leaf game: New York Islanders at New Jersey.

Although the Maple Leafs beat Montreal last night to knock them out of the play-off pursuit, the Isles still got one game left. If NY wins today, they will get the final play-off spot. The Leafs will clinch only if the Isles lost today.

Game time: 3:30pm (Eastern) on TSN.

No April Fool

Haven't updated my blog for more than 2 weeks now. Have been busy preparing for the RIBO exam yesterday. Results won't be received, as per Don our instructor, for another 2 weeks. Yikes.... that's nail-biting!

A few thoughts on a few things:

1. Leafs: Why do they have to do this every year? Slumpping early in the season and then fighting as hard as they can in order to squeeze into the play-off? Why are Leaf fans (me included) keep criticizing the team, and then keep watching without failing?!!?

I guess we just live in Toronto and we are DIE HARD Leaf fans! LOL!!

2. Ontario Election: Just 6 months and a few days away. I can't wait to vote out the McWimpy government. Frank Klees appreciation event coming up this Wednesday night at the Premiere Ballroom. Can't wait to see Frank again and hopefully John Tory. Then I can have a nice photo with Mr. Tory and show it to Mrs. Cheng!

3. Need to develop a marketing plan (and consult Tiff too) for general insurance. But it can't be actualized until I know that I have passed yesterday's exam. That's why this 2 weeks can be edggy!

4. This Sony Ericsson W810i cell phone is amazing. There is so much fun with it! And the designers at SE are so thoughtful too. Last night I tried to set the alarm in order to wake up early this morning. And I found out that the alarm will still work even though I turn the phone off so that no calls will interrupt my sleep. Hey! I am sold for another SE phone a year or two down the road!

5. I hope that PDL will not become PKL. Looks like there aren't much support among the congregation. The project appears to be so pastoral-driven.
